The Power of Story: Sharing Your Story Using Social Media

February 16, 2011

Most people have an extreme aversion to the moving process. Learn how social media has successfully helped one company, BungoBox, set out to change all that and make moving a lot more tolerable at the Florida Public Relations Association – Orlando Area Chapter’s February 24, 2011 meeting featuring Mark Carbone, founder and CEO of XE Corporation.

Mark will share social media best practices through dialogue with one of his clients, Tom Cannon, president and CEO of BungoBox, who is committed to helping consumers save time and money with an eco-friendly alternative to cardboard boxes. The duo will share the BungoBox social media case study as well as provide tips that add value without adding more “to-dos” and expenses. Finally, Mark will outline six elements to social media success and discuss the future of the social space.

The event will take place on Thursday, February 24 at the University Club, located at 150 E Central Blvd., Orlando 32801. Registration and buffet breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. and the presentation will begin at 8:30 a.m.  Cost is $15 for members, $20 for non-members and $10 for students. To register visit

2011 Image Awards Submission Tips and Helpful Hints

February 15, 2011

Are you fretting over your Image Awards entry? Is my binder the right size? Did I include everything on the checklist?

These are all questions we ask ourselves before we consider our submissions complete. In case you missed the Image Awards workshop, here are a few tips from Chris Gent, APR, to help make your entry a success:

  • Read the directions carefully, and be sure to address all five required elements in your two-page summary (Research, Objectives, Implementation, Evaluation and Budget).
  • Track projects throughout the year, not just at awards time.
  • Plan ahead to conduct research and document results.
  • Focus on your two-page summary. It’s 70 percent of your total score.
  • Carefully review the checklist provided in the Call for Entries, and make sure all criteria are met.

To ensure that your entry is complete, download a copy of the 2011 Call for Entries on the FPRA-OAC website today at All entries must be received by Friday, March 4, at 5 p.m. at Engauge (904 N. Orange Ave., Orlando).

The 2011 Image Awards Gala will be held on Thursday, April 28, at the Winter Park Farmers’ Market and is sure to be an event you won’t want to miss. If you have any questions, please e-mail Amy Hanigosky at or Kendall Litton Jensen at

Help Support Florida Public Relations Education Foundation

February 15, 2011

Dear FPRA Member:

The Florida Public Relations Education Foundation (FPREF) is kicking-off a 25th anniversary campaign to boost the principal funds of the Foundation.  The FPREF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which benefits FPRA members through professional development scholarships, as well as rebates for APR exams. The FPREF also benefits FPRA student members through college scholarships.

The Foundation is asking you to support its fundraising request by donating $25, $250, $2,500 to support the campaign, or a donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated.

The Foundation was founded in 1986 to support college scholarships for budding public relations practitioners.  Throughout the years, it has recognized the value of professional development and networking and expanded its scholarships to Annual Conference and the Counselors’ Network Winter Symposium, thereby helping us to continue enhancing the profession.
