Bailey Morris, Vice President of Professional Development & Media Mashup

I am responsible for planning and coordinating two of FPRA’s most exciting events of the year — our professional development event and Media Mashup — alongside my fabulous co-chair, Ms. Kelda Senior!

How long have you been a part of FPRA? Why did you join? #myFPRA
This is my first year in FPRA. I just graduated from UCF back in May with my B.A. in advertising and public relations. During my time as a student, I had the pleasure of serving as the President of Ad Club UCF during my Junior year. My responsibilities included planning and coordinating professional development events for students alongside a board of six awesome individuals. Upon graduating, I wanted to be involved in a professional organization where I could dip my toes into the PR world a little more. Needless to say, FPRA Orlando fit the bill.

Tell us about an exciting achievement.
So far, one of the biggest achievements I’ve had was when I was on the Ad Club UCF board in 2015, and we grew the club’s membership from 19 to 106 members — a 468% increase. The American Advertising Federation awarded us the College Chapter Membership Award for “Largest Growth” in the 2015 school year.

What was your first job?
Social Media Manager, at Think Creative Inc.

Tell us something people may not know about you.
I am a line dancin’ fool! On the weekends, you’ll most likely find me at Cowboys Orlando, scootin’ my boots to everything from Alan Jackson to Big & Rich.

Chapter Rewind: October Breakfast – Downtown CREDO

Five years after opening in Orlando, Downtown CREDO is providing thousands of dollars to local startups. Last year, Downtown CREDO gave $45,000 to three business startups. At the Florida Public Relations Association October Breakfast meeting, Jason Moore, Downtown CREDO Coffee Director said they plan to give another $45,000 this year.

Downtown CREDODowntown CREDO sells coffee and supports the Orlando community. They have three divisions; Coffee, Rally, and Conduit. The coffee division allows customers to name their price. Name your price makes customers think about what they are supporting. Otherwise, they would probably just pay and go home. Because of the pricing structure, customers usually start conversations with the baristas about the company’s mission

Downtown CREDO

FPRA Orlando President Alayna Curry, APR introduced Jason Moore. “We try to make an impact with the growers and families that we met in Guatemala,” said Jason Moore. “But we want to do as much as we can here locally as well.”

The Downtown Credo Rally division provides social enterprises with mentorship and startup cash. Funding is provided by individuals, groups or corporations that make at least $5,000 donations annually to Downtown CREDO.

The Conduit division offers persons the opportunity to carry out their ideas. For example, Jose Marantes, a regular customer created a Spanish and English language learning program called Fluente. “Credo is not passionate about language learning,” said Moore. “But we are passionate about Jose Marantes.” Downtown Credo succeeds by partnering with projects that their customers are passionate about.

The semester seems to be moving at high speed as the months are quickly passing by. It feels like yesterday was our kickoff meeting at UCF’s Pop Parlour, which had an attendance of over 60 students, and now we’re coming up to Intern Pursuit (#IPUCF) and our NASA tour. Before we know it the semester will be over and we’ll be replacing our soon-to-graduate executive board.

Speaking of the board— we have an incredibly dedicated group of students this semester, working tirelessly to bring the most to our members. We have Tiffany Berthiaume as our vice president, Karina Saad Delgado as our webmaster, Joel Hawksley in the role of vice president of membership, Javon Scott as vice president of strategic communication and planning, Nikki Bloomfield as our historian and I, Elyssa Wiener, am our current president. We also have the lovely Lindsay Hudock leading us to victory as Quotes’ advisor. This incredible team has pulled together some great speakers, tours and events; a lot to be proud of this semester!

Applications for scholarships

Membership Scholarship Deadline Extended

We’ve decided to extend the deadline for applications for scholarships until Friday, October  21, 2016,  at 5 p.m.

Fifty-one of our current 126 members have renewed as of today, Monday, October 17, 2016.  Let’s make it 100% by the October 31 deadline.

If the budget doesn’t allow for discretionary income to retain membership in FPRA or you have  limited funds, your Orlando chapter is offering one full and one partial scholarship for membership renewals. We also have a scholarship for students who are advancing to their professional careers. The deadline to apply for these scholarships is NOW Friday, October 21, 2016.

If you wish to apply for a membership renewal scholarship please send me an email at svdevlin@comcast.net  with responses to the following questions:

1. How long have you been a member of FPRA? Why is membership in FPRA important to you?
2. What kind of work do you currently do? Is more than 50% of the work you do related to PR?
3. What have you learned from your year(s) in FPRA that impacts your current job?
