Title & company: Communications Manager, National Mango Board

Give a brief explanation of your job: The National Mango Board is a national promotion and research organization. As the Communications Manager, I lead our industry and trade program including writing press releases, managing media requests and interviews, and coordinating ad buys with our agency and trade partners. I write, edit, and distribute newsletters, executive communications, as well as manage our industry social media channels. If you’ve never tried a mango before, I highly encourage you to do so!

How long have you been a member of FPRA and why did you join? I’m a pretty new member to the FPRA since I joined in January 2021. I’ve been interested in joining FPRA for a few years and finally took the plunge! I joined FPRA as an opportunity to meet more PR professionals in Central Florida as well as expand my skills.

What has been your favorite FPRA event so far? I really enjoyed the “Enhance Your Communications Program with Podcasts” event. It was really timely for me because I was trying to determine if a podcast would be good for my organization. I also really enjoyed the APR workshop. It was a great opportunity to demystify that whole process and wrap my head around it.

Tell us about an exciting achievement (personal or professional): Growing up, I was not very athletic. The thought of doing the mile run test in high school broke me out in hives from nerves. Fast forward to when I moved down to Central Florida in 2014, I decided to try running with the ultimate goal of completing a RunDisney race. My biggest personal accomplishment came in January 2019 when my husband and I completed the RunDisney Dopey Challenge. It consists of completing a 5k, 10k, half marathon, and marathon on consecutive days. It was definitely a bucket list event for me and a true culmination of my running journey.

What was your first job?: In college, I majored in Sport Management since I had dreams of being a sports agent. In my first class of my first semester, my professor saw I liked writing and told me about an opening in the Sport Information department of the Xavier University athletic department. Little did I know, that would turn into a six year stint in two athletic departments where I became immersed in all things athletic media relations. I was fortunate to work at Xavier University when both the men’s and women’s basketball teams were both nationally ranked, so I got great hands-on experience while also supporting my alma mater. Let’s Go X!

Fun fact: In my spare time, my husband and I maintain a blog and social media presence as The Orlando Duo. We are both originally from the midwest, so we’ve used The Orlando Duo as a way to continue to explore Central Florida and what makes it home to us. I’ve become quite the foodie and am always searching for the best meals Central Florida has to offer!
